Loving couples all around the world get engaged and get married. It is a good idea to know about wedding planning early. It helps ensure the wedding party a perfectly organised and memorable occassion, should the couple choose to have one. They will need to work with wedding vendors, organisers and professionals.

Wedding is a personal and unique thing, depending upon the characters of the couple. There are unlimited possible scenarios, however some basics can be listed as follows : wedding style, wedding size, wedding budget and wedding location all tailored to suit the couple's personalities.

Wedding style can be very casual like barbecue in the park or by the pool, to very formal with tuxedo and black tie. Wedding size can mean 10's or less to 100's or more guests. Wedding budget can be 100's to 1000's or more dollars. Wedding location can be local or somewhere distant.

It is advisable that you, the bride and groom, start planning your wedding as soon after the engagement as possible. This way you can take your time, brain storm and discuss your needs and desires with ease, prevent and correct any errors, deal with delays, handle any possible mishaps, have fun and enjoy planning your wedding rather than stress over it.

It is good to set your priorities. Write down things that you rank most to least important. The list could be something like the following :

1. 1st priority : date, budget, ceremony and reception location, guest list, offificiant (clergy), wedding organisor (service provider). Having prioritized, put together your wedding information and a list of questions and requests, to present to the vendor or service provider.

2. 2nd priority : attire, menu and beverages, cake, florist, videographer and photographer, musicians, invitations, wedding day help (before, during and after the wedding).

3. 3rd priority : wedding day schedule, readings at ceremony, flower selection, music selection, souvenirs for family and wedding attendants, a wedding gift from bride to groom, a wedding gift from groom to bride, centerpieces, wedding favors, seating arrangements.

Here are things you can do to find the appropriate wedding organisor professionals and service providers : ask friends and relatives for recommendations, check out the yellow pages, check out internet, attend bridal exhibitions, visit bridal shops.

Go over your written notes priority by priority and organize them by ease of use. Get a list of vendors and service providers, pick up the phone and set appointments. Make sure you schedule your appointments by priority. So, if a specific person or company's participation at the wedding is required, you should first contact them to find out when they have an opening. If the date is a priority you need to focus on securing an officiant, and a location for the ceremony and the reception, and so on.

You need to know that wedding specific service providers such as wedding consultants, caterers, florists, DJs and-or musicians, photographers, ceremony and reception sites and videographers, who also provide services to other types of parties, business events, conventions etc... may be open to negotiations. You may be able to secure their services at a reduced rates or receive a free gift.

You had better, while on the phone to set an interview appointment, request a price quote for a party. Give the service providers the basic information including number of guests, date, and hours requested and ask for a quote. When you arrive at the interview, with the price quote in hand let them know that the party is a wedding.

Make sure you only commit when and only when you have accumulated at least a few bids and found the person(s) you interviewed accommodating and easy to work with. Another important thing you need to do before booking any of your vendors. Check them out at the Better Business Bureau to make sure no claims have been filed against them. Once you have made your choice, do not look for other alternatives or you'll only end up confusing yourself. Instead go on to the next detail that requires your attention.

Always be prepared! Have your inquiries and information neatly written in each interview you go to. Bring a pen and paper. Feel free to take notes at meetings with the different wedding professionals, service providers and wedding vendors.
These notes will serve as your reference for final decision making process. You will most likely get the best price out of everything and thus save quite a bit.
